Aug. 21 ANR town hall to address loss of SNAP-Ed funding

As announced in the July 3 ANR Update, federal funding for SNAP-Ed eliminated after this current federal fiscal year, ending Sept. 30. This funding has supported approximately 160 UC ANR staff and academics through UC ANR’s CalFresh Healthy Living, UC Cooperative Extension program and the Nutrition Policy Institute.

While UC ANR leaders have committed to keeping impacted employees on UC ANR’s payroll with benefits through Nov. 30, 2025, other questions remain about how the program will wind down.

On Aug 21, a special ANR town hall will be held to discuss what we know so far and how UC ANR will deal with the loss of SNAP-Ed funding. By that date, Vice President Glenda Humiston and other ANR leaders hope to know whether the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, will allow use of carryforward funds beyond Oct. 1 and, if so, how the funds may be used.

Other topics to be discussed include layoff processes, internal hiring for open positions, and efforts to continue the essential work of nutrition education.

Participants are invited to bring their questions to the Aug. 21 ANR town hall. Look for an email containing the Zoom link in August.
