A multi-disciplinary team of orchard advisors, integrated pest management specialists, and social scientists will share results from a three-year needs-assessment project aimed at understanding and addressing farmworker training priorities on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. to noon.
Join the one-hour webinar to learn about how researchers from UC ANR, UC Davis and UC Berkeley developed appropriate agricultural extension materials for farmworkers, who have historically been overlooked in extension efforts, by partnering with an advocacy group that already has strong, trusted relationships with farmworker communities in the Central Valley.
Katherine Jarvis-Shean, UC Cooperative Extension orchard advisor for Yolo, Solano and Sacramento counties, will discuss the methods, results, and lessons learned from a needs assessment that involved farmworker-supporting organizations, labor contractors and growers, and participatory focus groups with Spanish-speaking farmworkers.
Houston Wilson, UC Cooperative Extension specialist in the Department of Entomology at UC Riverside, will discuss the development of training workshops in Spanish about integrated pest management, a need identified by farmworkers themselves. After the presentations, time will be dedicated for audience Q&A.
