Under the Solano Sun

I was talking to my son the other day, and he was considering planting potatoes in his greenhouse, and wanted to know what I knew about doing this. "Precious little" is really not the best answer, but it was the truth. So, I looked it up and thought that I would share what I found.

While walking with my dog, Bowie, this summer, during a particularly hot spell, we noticed that the street trees had thrown off an enormous quantity of bark. The bark was scattered all over the sidewalk, the street, the planting median, and front lawns.

In February of 2021, with visions of many bountiful seasons to come, I acquired a truckload of overstockbareroot fruit trees from Dave Wilson Nursery. All told, I ended up with 11 varieties of stone fruit along with some figs and pomegranates for good measure.

My September 15, 2023 blog post Mystery Plant Quiz: What Is It?! showed photos of a mystery plant that I discovered sharing a pot with one of our fuchsias. The new plant was so unfamiliar to me that the post became a Mystery Plant Quiz.
