Firewise Landscaping at Pioneer Veterans Hall

The service project is an opportunity to engage community volunteers in demonstrating why and how to create Defensible Space and Firewise Landscaping around a multi-use public meeting hall, the Pioneer Veterans Hall, to reduce wildfire risk. This opportunity is made possible through partnerships at the state and local level, including: Amador Resource Conservation District, University of California Master Gardeners, Keep America Beautiful, Keep California Beautiful, and California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.

Role

Volunteers will learn the recommended practices in this region for Firewise Landscaping led by Amador Resource Conservation District and University of California Master Gardeners staff. This service project will include: native species planting and seeding including digging holes, moving dirt, spreading seeds, removing plants from containers to put in ground, passing out water, etc. 

Tentative schedule:

8:30 am: Check-in at Pioneer Veterans Hall

8:45 am: Welcome/Safety/Assignments

9:00 am: Start activities - prepare beds, plant native plants, and remove any weeds 

11:45 am: Clean up Noon: Free Lunch!
