About Cooperative Extension

UCCE is the local link to research, information, and expertise for the University of California. Instead of teaching students in classrooms, University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) advisors, academics, educators and staff work directly with people in Santa Barbara County. We are part of a nationwide network of educators and scientists dedicated to the development and application of knowledge to address local agricultural, environmental, youth development, and health issues. By working and living among those we serve, UCCE expands UC's reach to engage all people and communities in California, ensuring more access to the UC system.

UCCE's many teaching tools include meetings, conferences, workshops, demonstrations, field days, video programs, newsletters and manuals. Thousands of volunteers extend our outreach, assisting with the 4-H youth development and UC Master Gardener, and UC Master Food Preserver education programs.
